Getting eye contact
Once your dog is happily going onto one placeboard and sitting, we can begin to ask for that focus. To start with bring a treat up to your eye level. As soon as the dog gives you eye contact; click and reward. Do this several times to condition this behaviour.
You can then begin to ask the dog to think for itself. So just wait until the dog give you eye contact without any cues. As soon as it does click and then reward. Even if it's for a split second this is great. Over a number of sessions you can then gradually ask for the eye contact to remain for a little longer before clicking. Remember like all training to be consistent and build up slowly.
