Use a treat to lure the dog into a sit. Mark as soon as it's bottom hits the floor. There is no need to say anything at this stage. Let the clicker and/or treat do the work. Remember we are just shaping behaviour. You can practise formally like this, but also remember to reward at any time when your puppy gives you a behaviour.
