Directional

This exercise looks at taking the beginnings of your dog learning hand signals on place boards at Gundog Beginner and transitioning those skills on to dummies. To begin with sit your dog up facing you then place a dummy to one side only. Blow the stop whistle to reinforce and then with a clear hand signal send your dog out to the dummy. Make sure you work on both sides. We use "away" for sending to the left and "out" to send to the right. You don't have to use verbal cues or these ones, but in more advanced levels when your dog can't see you it's useful to give them the verbal cue.

Once your dog is reliably taking both directions you can then put a dummy out to each side and send for one. Always go and pick the other one yourself.

To advance this exercise, only when you have mastered the above, you can send your dog for one, stop them and re-direct to the other dummy. Sit the dog back on the start and go and pick the other dummy yourself.
