Recall Between Placeboards

At this stage of the programme, your dog should have a good understanding of the sit/stay exercise. If your dog is not yet reliable with their stay, please continue to work on this before introducing recall between placeboards.

Remember, this is not a competition. Every dog learns at a different pace, and taking the time to build strong foundations will always benefit your future training.

Once you are confident that your dog can remain settled in a sit/stay, you can begin to introduce recalls between placeboards.

Using placeboards gives your dog a clear starting point and destination, helping them understand exactly what is expected. Begin with a short distance between the boards and reward your dog for successfully completing the exercise. As your dog becomes more confident, you can gradually increase the distance.

Progress slowly and always make sure your dog understands each step before making the exercise more challenging. If your dog starts to struggle, simply reduce the distance and rebuild their confidence.

The aim is to create a dog that is confident leaving one position, coming when called, and returning to you with enthusiasm and focus.

As always, less is more. Build success, don't rush the process, and remember that a strong foundation creates a reliable finished behaviour.
